This is a really great photograph of Ash. I'm not sure who took this or what it was for—it looks like Hedi Slimane's work—I could be wrong.

Irving Penn: The Master

Mr. Penn died on Wednesday, and it is important for us to say how inspiring he was. He was absolute perfection, and he, along with Richard Avedon, helped legitimize fashion photography. I am so sad I never got to meet him. His work inspires one to be more exacting and less contrived. There was never greater perfection in the studio. His portraits, still-lifes, and editorials were the pillar of Vogue, and he shall be missed terribly.

Skyburial DIRECTOR Jason Last
SKYBURIAL from jaime rubiano.
I didn't really like this. I like the clothes—a very Clockwork Orange inspired styling, which is kind of tired, though I still enjoy it when I see it. I thought the film was over done, or trying too hard—I'm not sure—there was something that bothered me though.
I'm not familiar with Jason Last, but I'm digging some of his other work. Just not this. I have a hard time accepting over conceptualized works. However, I do appreciate it because it can lead to good things.

The Smell

"THE UNKNOWN FRAGRANCE
An item that causes much curiosity in the office of FANTASTIC MAN is this bottle of fragrance of unknown provenance. The label on it reads GRAVEL: A MAN’S COLOGNE, and in the bottle is some actual gravel. There is no other marking or logo to say where it is from. For such a gritty name, the scent itself is surprisingly powdery and warm, like the memory of something a grandfather would have worn. For whatever reason, the member of staff who owns this bottle has absolutely no recollection of where it came from, or from how long ago. It is quite the most extraordinary fragrance, and would be a perfect recommendation if only it were possible to state where it could be purchased. If any reader can shed any light on its origins, please feel free to reply and provide enlightenment on this interesting issue."-Fantastic Man

Neurtal With a Pop
This color palette is very nice. It's really fun, but still put together and well executed through fit, shape, etc.
On the topic of boots— it seems that stylish (inexpensive) women's boots have flooded the market (and the streets) and every girl and their sister wears boots now. It's starting to get so boring because most of them just look the same being knock offs of more expensive designs—so they look decent, but you can still tell they're cheap. This has really put a damper on the stylishness of a great boot. You see so many cheaper, okay looking boots that it's hard to appreciate something really great when it comes along. Boot burn out. This goes for tights, too.
I mostly hold retailers that do the "make fashion affordable" thing responsible for this (*cough*UrbanOutfitters*cough*). Okay, it's great to get a good deal on something, and okay, it's pretty good design, but it's still cheap, and looks it. Is it worth it? I would prefer to pay more, get better quality, have fewer clothes and really wear that item in—establish a relationship with that article of clothing. Alright, that could be going a little too far, but you get it. I hope.

Yves Saint Laurent Documentary

"Shot during the summer of 1994 in YSL’s private residencies in Paris, Marrakech, and Deauville, and during the making of an haute couture collection...exclusive footage and images of 30 years of collections, this movie draws a sensitive and intimate portrait of Yves Saint Laurent."-coutequecoute
I would very much so like to see this.
